Brianna Turner, M.A.

Ms. Turner joined the team at the DBT Centre of Vancouver in May 2010. She received her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology in 2010 from Simon Fraser University, where she is currently completing her doctoral degree under the supervision of Dr. Alex Chapman. She received her B.A. (Hon) in Psychology from Simon Fraser University, for which she completed an honours thesis examining the impact of pregnancy-related hormones on anxiety. Her current research focuses on non-suicidal self-injury, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and emotional sensitivity and reactivity. Specifically, Ms. Turner is interested in factors that prevent or dissuade an individual from engaging in non-suicidal self-injury, and in longitudinal predictors of self-injury. Ms. Turner has received grants and scholarships from the Canadian Institute for Health Research and the Michael Smith Foundation of Health Research to support her research in these areas. She has presented her research at conferences worldwide. Clinically, Ms. Turner has received training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) as applied to a wide variety of psychological difficulties, including BPD, self-injury, depression, anxiety, disordered eating and psychosis.
